Hydrodynamic Characteristics of a New Type of Filled Columns. I. Presure drop

Abstract:

This paper presents an experimental study concerning the pressure drop in a column filled with a new type of packing. The new packing consists in Raschig rings with turbulence promoters. The pressure drop in random bed of packing was determined experimentally at the flow of a single phase (gaseous) and through which the liquid phase flows downwards and the gas phase flows upwards. The obtained results were compared with calculated data and with available data from literature. The pressure drop in the gas phase as it flows through the new packing is almost equal with those corresponding to Raschig rings with the same diameter. In a trickled bed of new packing, the pressure drop becomes greater than in trickled bed of Raschig rings.
