New Quinoline Salts of the Carboxylic Acids with Potential Biological Activity 2. Salts of Acetic, Chloroacetic Acids and Oxalic Acid
Mata Grozav, Ileana Neamtiu, Mihaela Dorosencu, Maria Mercea, Maria Laichici

Abstract:

This paper is concerned with the synthesis, the physicochemical characterization and the biological testing of 8-hydroxyquinoline salts with five carboxylic acids: acetic acid, monochloro-, dichloro-, trichloroacetic acid and oxalic acid. Salt formation is a simple means of modifying the physicochemical properties of an acid in order to improve its biological performance. The six salts were synthesized by a convenient method and characterized by physicochemical methods, FT-IR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy and elemental analysis. All of them were assessed biologically on monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous using Tsibulskaya-Vassilev laboratory general assay, and as preservative solutions for cut flowers. Four of them (I-IV) manifested a stimulating effect of 23-27% on the length of the main root at monocotyledonous and of 10-54% on the height of the plant at dicotyledonous. The holding solutions containing any of quinoline salts prolong vase life of carnations for 16-19 %. Keywords: quinoline salts, biological activity, monocotyledonous, dicotyledonous, plant growth regulators, preservative solution
