Sensitivity and risk Analysis of an industrial fixed-bed catalytic Reactor for benzene Oxidization

Abstract:

Safety operation of chemical reactors is a sensitive issue of increased importance in the context of an optimal industrial plant operation. Application of varoius analytical techniques based on the process model can offer a clear picture of the operating conditions subject to the thermal risk and reactor runaway. Starting from a moderate complex reactor model and by applying the parametric sensitivity analysis, various risk quantitative indicators can be derived together with the critical feeding conditions that lead to reactor runaway.The analysis is exemplified in the case of a fixed-bed catalytic reactor for benzene oxidation in gas-phase, by applying a coupled sensitivity and critical feed evaluation methods.
